Breast Enlargement: Risks

A breast augmentation is a drastic operation: the breast is enlarged by inserting silicone or water-filled implants. The recovery takes a few weeks, but many women are very satisfied with the result. However, breast implants can also have disadvantages. Breast Actives Can Gain Full Cup Sizes They can start to tear or leak and the implants sweat with almost all women. What are the risks of breast prostheses?

Why a breast Augmentation?

Many women want breast enlargement because they are not satisfied with their breasts. Breasts give the typical feminine shape. When this is lacking, a woman can feel affected in her dignity. Some women do not keep beautiful breasts after breastfeeding. And again, other women have lost so much or are exercising so much that little chest remains. Breasts consist of adipose tissue, and those who lose a lot of fat also lose part of their breasts. A breast augmentation is something other than a breast reconstruction, which is often used in breast cancer after the entire breast has been removed.

The Operation

Beforehand, the woman discusses what may be expected of the intervention. It is also discussed which cup size is possible. The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The prosthesis that is inserted consists of silicone or water. The prosthesis is inserted between the large pectoral muscle and the rib cage or between the large pectoral muscle and the mammary gland, but a combination can also be made. The doctor discusses the pros and cons of both options in advance. After the procedure, the woman remains in the recovery room for some time. A drain is usually attached to both breasts and causes the wound fluid to drain. This drain is removed as soon as no more fluid is produced. The first few days the breasts can feel painful. The first weeks may not be lifted. The scar of the operation is often in the breast fold,

Are silicone leaking or sweating?

Nowadays breast prostheses are subject to ever stricter quality requirements, and leaks are virtually impossible. However, no complete answer can be given here. Silicone breast implants almost all sweat, this is something that is common. This releases small quantities of silicone molecules that are absorbed by the body.

Although never scientifically proven, autoimmune diseases are more common in women with breast implants. Women who already have immune complaints can not handle silicone implants as well. The known PIP implants are twice as likely to rupture and leak than other implants. Although research shows that PIP implants are not toxic, a number of women have become quite ill. In addition, a leaky implant must always be removed, which in turn entails extra costs. The PIP implants may no longer be used. The new implants are firmer and firmer in shape, so that they do not leak when tearing. But here too, a torn implant must be removed immediately.

A ruptured or leaking prosthesis is not always immediately noticeable. There may be pain or the shape of the breast has suddenly changed. The breast can also suddenly become bigger or the glands in the armpits are set up.

Capsular formation

Because implants are foreign to the body, the body will form a capsule around it to protect the body against the harmful intruder. With today's implants, this only happens in 5 percent of cases. In the past, that chance was 60 percent. capsule formation can be recognized by a ripple in the implant. Many women also experience pain. When there is capsular formation, the implant is usually removed and a new insertion is made. Women who have already had haircut formation have an increased chance of re-shaping haircuts.

Breastfeeding and silicone

In most cases, the woman can simply breastfeed with silicone breast implants. The function of the breast is not affected. It is only in a few cases that breastfeeding is no longer possible. Every woman has to take this into account before she wants to undergo a breast augmentation. Yet the chance that breastfeeding does not work with breast implants is very small. When breast reduction is the case, it is more likely that breastfeeding does not work.
